What is Jasper?

Jasper is one of a variety of Quartz. It is a dense, opaque, microcrystalline crystal. Fibrous and grainy varieties of Quartz are often grouped together and referred to as Chalcedony. Jasper is colored by oxides of iron and known for its deep earthy tones of red, yellow, brown, and green, sometimes in shades of blue or purple, and displays wonderful contrasts in its banding, inclusions, pictures, and small circular patterns. Its name comes from the Latin and Old French words for spotted or speckled stone. Jasper is most commonly found in India, Russia, Egypt, Madagascar, Australia, as well as in many countries in South and North America.  Jasper is the best for stress and is said to help achieve a state of calm and zen.
